fAIRY "GOD MOTHER"
Fairy god mother as god ?Cinderella’s fairy God mother is also like “God” in many ways . Both individuals not only have the power to perform miracles, but also prove to be a symbol of true goodness. Cinderella's fairy God mother appears when she is most needed. Like god she is always watching over Ella. When she sees that Ella is loosing hope she comes to remind her that miracles are possible and manages to restore her faith. Cinderella's fairy God mother proves to have the power to remove Ella from suffering in the same way that god has the power to take away suffering Just as God allows people into Heaven, Ella’s fairy God mother allows her to be released from suffering into the castle or her version of Heaven.

A Godparent, is a individual who stands surety for another in the rite of Christian baptism. “In the modern baptism of an infant or child the godparent or godparents make profession of faith for the person being baptized (the godchild) and assume an obligation to serve as proxies for the parents if the parents either are unable or neglect to provide for the religious training of the child, in fulfillment of baptismal promises”. - http://www.britannica.com/topic/godparent
In "Cinderella" Ella has a fairy god mother which alludes to a "god parent" in christianity. In Christianity a fairy Godmother is a individual who is responsible to look out for a child in any case where the parents cannot. In "Cinderella" Ella's fairy god mother is left with the responsibility of looking out to her when needed. For Cinderella her fairy God mother only appears when she truly feels that she is needed. She appears when Cinderella is weeping on a bench and when she is on the edge of loosing her faith. Cinderella's fairy god mother helps restore her faith in kindness and goodness, and sets her back on the path of christianity. God mothers are supposed to look out for their god children in Christianity and this is exactly what Cinderella's fairy god mother does for her by restoring her faith in living a virtuous life. |
